WOOLACOMBE 2009

What a great four day event - fun packed from start to finish.

The annual Bronze Bootscooter short break holiday started at 8.00 o’clock on Friday morning 6th March, at the Bronze Club, where members and friends of the Bootscooters were met by their coach and their driver, who by the way was a lady  called Clair, from NCB Coaches, Wem.

After a further pick up in Gayton it was off to sunny Woolacombe (or so we hoped) for our 4 day line dance break. But of course WE HAD all 4 seasons in 4 days!!!!!!!!
We arrived at the Royal Hotel, Woolacombe, North Devon  after approximately an 8 hour journey, with a couple of comfort breaks on the way, the latter being chosen by Clair our driver as a special stop as it was a Garden Centre with many extras, including a very well equipped café and a variety of shops with different items for sale, which on the return journey, many bought as mementos or gifts to take home.
We were welcomed at the hotel by a gentleman from reception, then it was up to our rooms, all front facing rooms have the added benefit of a balcony with a splendid sea view of  Woolacombe Bay.

Rooms varied in size from the large to the very-large, all being en-suite. In the main the hotel was warm, clean and comfortable and had a number of lounges, heated indoor swimming pool, which many of the group took advantage of, snooker and poole rooms and a small gymnasium. Downstairs there was a large ballroom which we used for the evening entertainment and line dance socials and also daily dance instruction by Kim Aldis. Upstairs there was a cabaret lounge equipped with a well stocked bar with evening entertainment provided for all residents.
When it was time to dine the restaurant provided a full English breakfast and a full 3 course evening meal daily, the variety and quality of food was excellent with plenty for all and ‘boy’ did most of us eat!!!

What we came for in the main was a line dance holiday and didn’t we touch lucky with Kim Aldis, a real pleasant, well mannered, friendly and pleasing lady who had a great way about her in the way she taught and joined in with us all. Of course we musn’t forget Roy, her husband who played the music for us all to dance to. Thanks Kim we learnt some great dances.
On the 3 evenings we had live entertainment from, Dave Whitmore, No Regrets and Billy Curtis with Kim and Roy doing the disco.

Part of the holiday included 2 half day excursions, one to Barnstable for an afternoons shopping or browsing this quaint town and the other to the seaside resorts of Lynton and Lynmouth, both really enjoyable trips with our driver Clair at the helm. What a driver up and down these narrow country roads and of course she was overwhelmed by your gerousity at the end of the holiday. Of course not forgetting one lady member who had a birthday on Monday, the last day of our holiday, and she certainly smiled when she received the boquet of flowers from us all.

The fun that we had was created by the wonderful people that came on the trip and the enjoyment was seen to be had by all and what a shame that we had to come home on Monday.
Thanks to all that came away with us on the holiday, we will certainly remember it for some time to come for all the fun and laughter that we had throughout the 4 days, it will stick in our minds for a long time. We thank you all for your well wishes, thanks and generosity. Hope to see you all again very soon.

Thanks. Brenda & Bill.
