Bobby Sawyer 20.10.09It was a pleasure to have Bobby D Sawyer back on stage at the Bootscooters Social. Bobby is such a friendly pleasant guy who is very popular with the ladies and last night was no exception. Such a great entertainer, Bobby kept the dancers happy with songs such as Toes and Cabo San Lucas to mention just a couple. He has great interaction with the audience, unfortunatley he was sporting rather a bad leg injury which stopped him jumping off the stage as normal, but this didn't deter from an excellent performance. We were joined by Chrissy Byrne and Liz Rae(formerly Blue Orchid) - again it was Liz this time sporting a broken ankle and was in a wheelchair. Having first met Bobby at the Bronze Club it was lovely to have them back supporting Bobby- this time in the audience. Chrissy by request brought along her Hunks & Chunks callendars all proceeds being in aid of Bone Marrow Cancer research so it was nice for the Bootscooters to halp a little towards the cause by getting people to throw £l coins to get closest to a whisky bottle to win, luckily it was a Bootscooter who won, well done Pat. The raffle again had over 30 prizes which included a couple of Chrissy's callenders, lucky people who won them. These callenders are certainly worth every penny of the £8.50, they have great entertainment value, seeing artists as you've never seen them before and probably won't ever see them like it again !!!!! A light supper was provided being a couple of varieties of soup with crusty bread followed by several varieties of cheesecake and cake with cream and icecream. It was nice to have a lovely hot cup of soup on such a cold evening. Even though it was a little early in the Month a Halloween Theme was adopted and the room dressed accordingly. It was great to see so many people making the effort to get dressed up, although there were a few rather 'sarcastic remarks' about my attire - just a well I knew they were joking. All in all it was another fabulous Bootscooter Social with a great audience, superb act and generally brilliant atmosphere. As always I must add a big thank you to the following people. Dave and Pat Hughes, Mavis and Brian Ravenscroft, Mike and Hilary Kealy and not forgetting Holly for all their help, setting up, serving food and cleaning up. Also an enormous THANK YOU to you people for buying tickets and as always supporting the Bootscooters. | January 20.1.09 4 CARD TRICK We were fortunate last night to have the pleasure of listening and dancing to 4 Card Trick. We had read reports about them in the Linedancer, but must admit, you really have to listen and see this band to appreciate their full potential. What an absolutely fabulous act. Vocals in the main are performed by Glenn Rogers and Jon Keys (drummer). Such a pleasant friendly and pure professional outfit. They look and sound the part and have a great sense of humour. I think everyone was quite overwhelmed by what they saw and heard and the whole evening was a howling sucess. Once again supper was laid on, this time it was either soup or chilli & rice with crusty bread and the trimmings, followed by cheesecake or gateux. Another great raffle with loads of prizes to go round, and even though Tombstone were depleted in numbers, those there did take their fair share of prizes. Overall the evening was a resounding sucess and we truly hope to see the 'lads' & ladies back again, hopefully they also felt it was a well worth trip all the way from Kent. Thanks 4 Card Trick for a memorable evening. | | 2nd December - Richard PalmerWe had a replacement act for our Tuesday Show Night as unfortunately Paul Bailey was taken ill and was unable to attend. Richard Palmer from Scunthorpe stepped into the breach. Not having had Richard before many were surprised at his versatility and his excellent stage presence. He played a wide range of up to date music with one or two more established songs in between. Our new dance floor was well used by the dancers as he constantly had the floor full. He is certainly an entertainer to be seen and we at the Bronze Bootscooters look forward to inviting him back sometime in the future. As usuall our raffle was well supported with over 40 prizes and the Jacobs Table was excellent. We hope everyone who attended had an excellent evening and our thanks must go again to Richard Palmer and all our regular attenders. See you all in 2009. | 2ND OCTOBERAlan Gregory & Rosie Horne What a fabulous night - young Rosie Horne, only 18 years old took to the stage first. Rosie admitted that she was very nervous, but goodness knows why. She has a fantastic voice and brilliant stage presentation. She said she was worried whether anyone would dance, but no need, the floor was soon full. You could tell by her 2nd spot the nerves had well and truly disappeared, with a change of costume, she belted out some great songs with confidence - we look forward to her return next year. What can you say about Alan Gregory that hasn't already been said- absolutely brilliant. He had the audience in the palm of his hands, his choice of dance songs were superb which matched his sense of humour with his constant 'Frank Spencer' impersonations. Alan truly is a professional, great voice, great sense of humour and an all round really nice chap. Again it was nice to see Alan an established artiste ask Rosie to join him on stage for a duet to end the evening off. Another ab-fab evening, with a huge raffle and supper - soup, crusty bread, cheese and to follow very fattening gateauxs, but nice. Everyone appeared to go home well satisfied even if they didn't win on the raffle. Thanks must go to everyone who dressed up for our Halloween theme, you all looked super and well done to Mary and Pam for winning the best dressed, although the judges said it was a very hard decision. Thank you all once again and we'll hopefully see you on 2nd December when Paul Bailey is once again on the Bootscooter Stage. | | 16th September Nancy Ann Lee & Broadcaster Yet another first for the Bootscooters when on stage we saw Nancy Ann Lee from Goole, near Hull and Broadcaster, from down South. It was Nancy who took to the stage first and looked very impressive dressed all in white from head to foot. Only small in stature, but her voice was quite amazing and very powerful. It didn't take the dancers long and they were soon dancing away and thoroughly enjoying themselves. Broadcaster took to the stage next. What brilliant musicians. Their guitar playing was exceptional and they soon had the dancers on the floor. They sang most of the up to date music with loads of popular dance tracks mixed in. The entertainment the whole night was superb and the atmosphere was amazing. Supper for the evening was jacket potato with either, chili, beans and cheese followed by cheesecake or gateaux. With a raffle of over 30 prizes, it gave everyone a fair chance of winning. You can be assured that both of these fabulous acts will make a return visit to the Wirral during next year. Check out the great acts for our October Social.Tickets for this event are very limited. B & B | lst JulyTim McKay - Katie Rhodes - Darren Busby Another first for the Bronze Bootscooters where three acts appeared on one night all 3 having been nominated for the British Country Music Awards and after seeing all of them perform it is no surprise that they are there amongst the very best. On the night the young Tim McKay took to the stage first, he set the standard for the evening and this brilliantly tallented young man had the audience in his hands right from the word go. His programme consisted of the more up to date dance music which pleased both dancers and listeners. Tim was followed by the one and only Katie Rhodes who has superb stage presentation with her appearance, voice and overall performance. Katie in our opinion is one of the best if not the best young female artist on the circuit at present. Katie sang and played good country music which kept the floor full and again the listeners very happy. Darren Busby ended the first half of the evening. Darren is a very experienced performer and is know country wide for his superb repertoire and his friendly relaxed manner. The second half of the evening brought Katie Rhodes back on stage first who produced another fine country music performance and finished her spot with 'Love can build a bridge' by the Judds which got a standing ovation. The suprise of the evening came next when both Tim and Darren took the stage together and produced an excellent 40 minute performance for all to enjoy. This unfortunately brought the evening to a close, but I'm sure everyone could have stayed for many hours more listening and dancing to these 3 great acts. Bill and Brenda Sutton | | 29th AprilBrushwood - Donna Wylde Our artists on stage were Miss Donna Wylde and Brushwood. Donna had not been to the Bronze before but soon appeared to adapt to the Bootscooter atmosphere. She sang a wide variety of line dance tunes which the guests were able to dance to.Some were blasts from the past which were well appreciated, but in the main she kept the dance floor full and the listeners happy. Next on stage were Brushwood. It has been 2 years since Brushwood appeared at the Bronze and now have become a trio, with Brian joining Kas & Andy. I must admit the combination make a fabulous sound. Their stage presentation is excellent which matches their variety of music and talent. I assure you they will be back to entertain at the Bronze next year. The raffle was once again a huge success with over 35 prizes - how do we do it!!!! We are most gratefull for the support and people buying tickets. Supper included 3 varieties of soup with crusty bread & cheese, followed by choices of gateaux, cheesecake & pavlova with icecream and cream. Thanks must of course as normal go to our small team of helpers and to those people who buy tickets for our events. We are the only venue we are aware of that have a table plan for social nights and endeavour to try to please everyone by placing friends as close together as possible. | 4th MarchLivewire & Peter Carlile Another complete sell out at the Bronze Club to see country singer Peter Carlile and a great duo Livewire from Kent. The evening started with the usual free supper, this time being hotpot with all the trimmings followed by a choice of 6 different gateauxs and cheesecakes. The first act to take to the stage was Peter Carlile - in his first spot he played many of the old country favourites which pleased both listeners and dancers alike. Next on stage were Livewire - this duo is made up of Ainsley (Country Code) and Debbie Billson from Sussex - it took them no time to get down to singing some really popular up to date line dance music. Both Ainsley and Debbie at times sang their own songs, but as a duo harmonised well. This act is very smart and well professionaly turned out. The interval came and once again another extensive raffle of over 35 prizes, which gave a good chance to everyone. Well done to Ted for winning Bill's special prize - we could tell he was highly delighted. Boths acts performed exceptionally well in their second spots and I'm sure many people would like to see both acts again where ever they appear and we can definitely recommend them both. The Bootscooters would like to thank everyone who supports our Socials as we guarantee value for money. Where else other than the Bootscooters could you get 2 first class acts, a free supper, large raffle and a great warm friendly atmosphere - for only £5 | | January 29thThe evening began with Rachel Cain on stage, giving a very professional performance - we had seen Rachel before but must admit she appeared to have improved and gained in confidence on stage. Rachel was followed by the one and only Mr. Dave Sheriff. Dave had only just returned from Spain late Sunday night and managed to fit a visit to the Bronze Club into his very tight schedule and is due to return back to Spain at the weekend. He is certainly a class act and for those who have never seen him before, he is certainly one not to be missed. He played 6 seperate instruments during his first spot and kept the dance floor full at all times with his famous country act, which even included Red Hot Salsa which he wrote some years ago. For a gentlement just turned 60 he is something special. The room was full to capacity and the atmosphere was absolutely astonishing. Supper was enjoyed by everyone prior to the cabaret and the nights raffle with over 30 prizes raised another £l50 towards our 'new dance floor fund' It was noticeable that there were a number of new faces amongst the audience and these were mainly Bronze Club members who had never attended a Line Dance Social before - we hope to see them again at one of our future socials. | Christmas Party 18th DecemberWell what a fantastic night we all had – a real party atmosphere. Paul was so versatile with his range of music and dance suggestions As always his stage presentation was exceptional which goes without saying. His banter with the audience as usual was on top form, such a professional. I think anyone would find it very difficult to fault the evening in any way and all feedback received has been nothing but complimentary and positive. The room was packed to capacity, but due to the new table arrangement, felt comfortable – quite a lot of people had made the effort to dress Christmassy which added plenty of colour – check out the photos The Jacobs Table was once again magnificent, such a great variety of food everyone did it proud – I think we would have all been eating for about a week to finish it all off, but most went home with a ‘goody bag’ so that saved any waste. Thanks to Mavis, there was a nice big trifle, which didn’t last many minutes, there were mince pies, scones, éclairs, shortbreads, flapjacks, the centre piece being the chocolate fountain with fresh strawberries & marshmallows – naughty, but very nice. The raffle as normal was huge, everything from Turkey Vouchers, Food Hampers, fruit hampers, Cheese & Wine Hampers, lots of wines, chocolates, crackers and many many more. We will be passing a large portion of the raffle money to the Club to go towards the new floor fund. Bootscooters did really well winning raffle prizes, but alas Tombstone – not a one –better luck next time. A very big thank you to our helpers, you are all worth your weight in gold. A nice rest now until we return on Tuesday 15th January, although Bill & I will be out and about on our new venture visiting places. Hope you all have a good Christmas & New Year. Brenda. | | DARREN & TIM Tuesday 6th november social. Another great show last night in which we saw Darren Busby and Tim McKay. It was the first time at the Boot scooters for Darren and he certainly didn’t disappoint. A very professional artist with a fabulously mellow country voice. Amongst his repertoire was Ride the River and A Cowboy and a Dancer both great favourites with the Bronze dancers and by the look of the dance floor with everyone else. Of course it was Tim’s second visit to the club and I must say although it wasn’t that long since he was last here, he has improved immensely both vocally and in confidence. He builds up a rapour with the dancers and listeners alike – and they love it. Last visit we commented on how good he was, but he’s getting even better. Of course he has a lot of influence from Darren and for their second spot, they did a duet. Again another first at the Bootscooters, they harmonised brilliantly, even when Tim did his “Elvis” act!!!! They certainly commanded the stage and genuinely looked as though they were enjoying themselves, which we know they were due to the comments Darren made at the end of the evening. Food for the evening was hotpot followed by apple pie – which according to feedback went down very well – literally. I think that’s why Darren and Tim did so well, they had a good “feed” before going on stage. Down to the raffle – another load of prizes over 35 to be exact – the Tombstone Raiders took either 4 or 5 of them, not quite as well as we normally do at their club, but we must be teaching them well as they usually don’t win anything. So I think all in all, the night was another great success. £100 from the raffle proceeds will go to the Bronze Club’s general fund and hopefully towards the cost of a bigger dance floor – we certainly need it .Of course a big THANK YOU must always go to our team of Helpers – Sarah , Pat & Dave – we couldn’t have done it without you. Next event is our Christmas Party, with Paul Bailey – tickets only £2.50 to our regular supporters – but free to Bootscooters. Brenda. (Bootscooter) | SALOON DRIFTERS & KATIE RHODES Tuesday 2nd October Social It was great to have Saloon Drifters back for a visit to the club and as usual they were on top form. They are a great act to watch as well as listen to and really interact with the dancers and listeners alike. They had never met Katie Rhodes before, but it didn’t take them long to make her feel at ease. For the first time at the Club we saw Katie Rhodes. We’d been trying to get Katie for some time, as we’d heard good things about her, but she’d been away touring with Heather Myles, and we can understand why. What can we say, it was an absolute pleasure to meet and listen to her. What a fabulous voice –Katie told us she was nervous when she arrived, but hopefully we all made her feel welcome and I’m sure the Bootscooter atmosphere didn’t take long to rub off. She really looked as though she enjoyed both her spots and it was lovely to see how well she presented herself both on and off stage – it’s lovely to see a young female artist not only looking smart, but also sounding so brilliant and professional and chatting away with everyone during her time off stage. Everyone commented on how much they’d enjoyed her – surely that speaks for itself. To finish the evening we had a real 1st, with Saloon Drifters and Katie singing together, it was fabulous and the banter between the 3 of them was just great. We had several visitors from different parts of the country who had come along to see Katie and I think it goes without saying thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We had another excellent raffle and supper for the night was baked potato with, chilli, beans, cheese, etc and gateaux to follow. I know Katie has already been booked for the Tombstone Festival next August – she really is a class act – so don’t miss her – and keep an eye on our website for when she’ll be back at the Bronze. Brenda.(Bronze Bootscooters) | | MAGILL 4th September 2007Magill, well what can we say, it was lovely to welcome Derek and Dave back they were really on top form and what a fantastic night, check out the photos- the atmosphere was electrifying. After a light supper of soup, roll & cheese followed by apple, rhubarb or blackcurrant pie with ice-cream or cream, or both for the over indulging, the night began and what a night it turned out to be. One thing about these two extremely pleasant, polite and professional young men is the vibrancy they portray to the whole room. Even those who didn’t get up to dance left for home feeling well satisfied. Audience participation is definitely an utmost part of their performance and here at the Bronze, they are only too willing to take part and have a great night. Which we all most definitely did. Thanks Magill, you’ll be back – it was also nice to welcome Magill’s followers, albeit a rowdy lot some of whom had travelled quite a distance- hope to see you back at the club in the not too distant future.
