ON OUR TRAVELS
Keep checking our Travels page, you never know where we're going to turn up next.
This page will be updated shorty - we have been out and about to lots of places, but just haven't had the time to update as yet.
25th June/Llay RBLWe ventured off to this very nice club in Llay to see a favourite band of ours 4 Card Trick and they certainly weren't a dissapointment. Great music, vocals and choice of songs. Llay sports a fair sized dance floor which at times due to the diminishing amount of people seemed rather sparse. Nevertheless this didn't deter from an excellent evening. Not surprisingly in this economic climate, and a barmy summer evening it was nice that people had turned up. As we always say. Support your local clubs, don't lose them through lack of enthusiasm. Bill had a nice long chat with Les Evans and we hope to be able to accomodate the band at the Bootscooters again in the forseeable future | 6th June, 2010-THE ANDY BELL SOUNDOff to Wellmans Social Club to see a duo we hadn't even heard of before, but we were pleasantly surprised at the versatility of this duo who were not young in years, yet sang every up to date country linedance tune on the circuit at the moment. They even sang, Rhyme or Reason which stumped most of the dancers and A Quarter After One. Andy's extremely broad Scottish accent took some getting used to, but never affected his singing. There was alot of pure live music from this duo and once again Wellmans came up with yet another great night. Well done Shirley. | | 4th June It was off to Broughton Wings to see a conpetely different act than were on stage, but what an absolute pleasure to discover it was Lass Vegas. An exceptionally tallented duo, who sing everything for the line dancers both old and new. They kept the floor full all night and the listeners also extremely happy with their variety of music. | l2th March 2010Expecting to see Wrangler at Tombstone it was quite a surprise to arrive and to find Bob Morgan was the replacement act. When we say surprise, we mean that in a very complimentary way. We have seen Bob on several occasions and must say he never fails to please the audience and tonight was not exception. I suppose he could be classed as a gentle giant, but he has a fabulous voice and very pleasant stage presentation. I'm sure everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening. | | Tombstone - April 2010Broadcaster were the act on stage for Tombstones April social. I was surprised to see one of the singers different to when they appeared at the Bronze Club, but nevertheless it was a good night's entertainment and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. | Tombstone Neston 8.1.10Although the weather conditions were pretty poor, we trundled off to Neston to see an exceptionally good artist Alan Gregory. Due to the bad weather there were only slightly over 40 people there, but for those of you who didn't attempt it you missed a fabulous night. The low numbers certainly didn't deter Alan from giving a 100% performance and he was certainly appreciated by the small audience. Dancers kept on dancing all night long and it was such a shame the night had to come to an end, but not without 2 enchores from Alan. Such a funny man with a brilliant sense of humour and great stage presentation. A great night. Next month see's Donna Wylde on stage. check out Tombstone's website for details. | | Llay British Legion 25.9.09This was our first visit to Llay our main interest for going was to see Award Winning Duo Spur and we certainly were not dissapointed. They seemed to have a unique style and certainly unique voices. The dance floor was always full with a variety of both partner and line dances. It was great to hear total country music from this duo, certainly ones to watch out for. As for the Legion, great dance floor, great atmosphere and very friendly, not just saying that because I won the raffle, but it was a very enjoyable evening and I'm sure we'll be back there again as they have a great line up of acts on the way. | Tombstone, Neston 10.7.09Can't say I remember this duo, but they certainly made their mark at Tombstone this month. What a great act. Every song they sung had the dance floor full and they certainly created a great atmosphere. It was really a pleasure to both watch and dance to these two guys on stage. As usual there was a good turnout and Terry and his helpers make the room look very inviting. It's a great venue to visit. Karen does a super job with her raffle prizes and fortunately Bootscooters did manage to win 2, of course we would have liked more, better luck next time. Their next social is on llth September when they have Fools Gold on stage, another great duo. | | Friday 12.6.09Tombstone, Neston. It was great to see Kenny Johnson on stage at Neston Royal British Legion. I think Kenny said it was the first time he'd performed as a country artist at the Legion, but he certainly did the night proud. His first set he sang alot of the more popular dances like Ride the River and Cabo San Lucas, both real floor fillers. In his second spot he was joined by Chris his wife and they did a few songs together, I think a favourite of theirs being Oaklahoma Wind, well it was certainly a favourite with the dancers. Unfortunately the evening came to close all too soon, and I actually won a raffle prize - I think it was a 'Stress Bunny'. Next month they have American Spirit on stage, see their website for details via our 'links' page. | Wallasey Town Hall 1.5.09An event organized by Tombstone CMC at Wallasey Town Hall played host to Easy Rider. An excellent duo with a great variety of music both for linedancers and listeners alike. Even though there were a couple of other Socials being sported on the same night, a very healthy number of people attended. Apart from a Tombola and Book stall there was also an Irish Bingo with number caller (Terry) suitably dressed in his Irish Leprecaun outfit. An overall entertaining night - all funds raised going towards the Tombstone Festival 3lst July 1/2nd August all in aid of The Wirral Autistic Society. | | 15.5.09 Alicats - HeswallGlenn Rogers was the act at Heswall on Friday - Glenn had travelled up from near London so it was a shame when the room was less than 1/2 full. Nevertheless those of us who did attend thoroughly enjoyed the night. Glenn sung purely for the dancers and as such kept the floor busy all night. There was another good raffle - but unfortunately only 1 prize went to members on our table. As always the disco was run by Alison & Ian. Next time they have Rough Diamond, but no social next month due to them going away to celebrate their wedding anniversary. | Tombstone, Neston 3.4.09A new face appeared on stage at Neston Royal British Legion, Woody the stringman. An excellent entertainer who plays a variety of stringed instruments. Unfortunately he is soon to leave England to go and live in Spain and I'm sure he'll be greatly missed by his followers. His style of music lends itself to 'hillbilly', which gave the dancers a challenge, nevertheless the floor was kept busy as the partner dancers soon thought of a dance to fit the music. Another good show put on by Tombstone. Don't forget to take a look at their website for Festival details and who's on next month. | | Broughton Wings 6.2.09Quite alot of people braved the bitterly cold weather last night to go and see 2 brilliant musicians, namely Broadcaster. They are a very lively duo with a brilliant variety of songs, and also advise what dancers go to their alternative tracks, which does help. As always there was a nice warm welcome and the evening proved thoroughly enjoyable. | Broughton Wings 2.1.09Lorraine and Brian from Lasso Reelers played host to Diamond Jack last night. Although they were a little thinner on the ground than normal, probably due to only just getting over the New Year celebrations, the night was excellent. Diamond Jack as always were full of enthusiasm both in their singing, their songs and stage presentation. The dancers were more than happy with the variety of songs and in the 2nd half they sung really good 60;s 70's and 80's numbers, yet everyone still danced the night away. Always a pleasing venue to visit and last night was no exception. Next month sees another exceptionally popular act return - Broadcaster. Check out the 'calendar' for details. | | Penny-fford l6.l.09This was a venue we'd never been to before, but due to Katie Rhodes performing there it was decided to try it out. Unfortunately there had been a change of artist due to Katie's partner Ady being in hospital. So on stage was BJ Locklin - this was a really good nights entertainment. Bryan kept himself and the dancers busy all night on the dancefloor. It's a nice little venue, but unfortunately far from full, but has a really nice friendly atmosphere. Another good night, well done BJ for stepping into the breach. | | |
