Our destination for our 4 day holiday 2013 was The Sefton Hotel, Babbacombe, North Devon. Now if you’d have read the reviews in Trip Adviser, you probably wouldn’t have got on the coach, but thankfully most of us take what we read in Trip Adviser with a pinch of salt, and thank goodness we did.
The Hotel was superb, beautifull setting, with stunning sea views, which most of us were able to appreciate from our veradas. Lovely and comfortable and extremely clean, warm (in fact too warm at times) and presentable rooms. Lovely restaurant with meals to match, with good variety of food, pleasant and helpful staff, brilliant bar and top class entertainment. Of course not forgetting our coach driver Steve who was great throughout our holiday.
I must say the only slight downside was the weather, but there again what do you expect in March, not that it stopped us doing anything. We had 2 half day trips out, all included in the price. On Saturday we went to Trago Mills, quite a large outlet compex of shops, gardens, model railway etc, in fact there was plenty to see and do and I think we all spent a ‘few bob’ while we were there as the prices were quite desirable.
Sunday we had a trip round the coast, unfortunately the weather was cold and very windy, so Steve just took us on a tour round to save us having to get off the coach, which suited us all. We ended up in Torquay, where most of us had lunch (in Wetherpoons & other venues) before getting picked up and back to the hotel.
We held 2 linedance workshops, one on Saturday afternoon and one Sunday afternoon. Both myself and Graham went through a few good dances for everyone. It was great to be joined by members from another coach group from Suffolk, who we made good friends with over the holiday, and hope to meet again.
Our evening entertainment was exceptional. Friday night we had a singer, who catered for us all, what a great night we had, but must admit I think the best was the comedian we had on Saturday night. What an absolutely fantastic night we had with laughter from beginning to end, I really think he had met his match with our group and the jokes just kept bouncing backwards and forwards, everyone loved it. Sunday night we were entertained with an ex member of the Fortunes playing keyboard and singing. Again it was yet another brilliant night, and plenty of fun with ‘balloons’!!!!
When the entertainment had finished on all three nights, the hotel let us finish the night off with our own line dance music, also the bar was kept open for anyone who wanted a late night drink, they just couldn’t have been more accommodating. Unfortunatley, we’d laughed, danced and probably drunk that much, that by midnight we were all ready for bed and ready to recharge our batteries for the next day.
After yet another lovely breakfast it was time for us to leave on Monday morning and head back home, but not before we said our ‘goodbye’ to our new friends from Suffolk. We ALL had a fabulous 4 days – I keep getting told ‘ IT’S THE BEST WE’VE EVER HAD’ – lets hope we can match it in 2014.
