Last weekend we spent at Angelsey at the Wylfa Country Music Festival.
Full report to follow. It was a great weekend.
RHYLSVILLE - 25/26th MayAs usual the sun was shining for the open air country music festival at Rhyl. On Sunday we saw Vegas on stage playing to a large crowd of very happy linedancers, either just sitting listening and sun bathing or dancing. And didn't we all dance!!!. Bank Holiday Monday started off with Little Rock, then West Virginia followed by Kenny Johnson with the help of Chris his wife. Unfortunately the weather, as it did last year turned cooler shortly after lunch time and gradually saw people making a move for home before the rains came once again. All in all it was another excellent year for Rhyl. This festival is very under rated, it's 2 days of great entertainment and if the weather allows, brilliant dancing and sunbathing. It is completely FREE and just a stones throw from the beach one way and the shops the other. Roll on next year. | Katie Rhodes 5.10.08It was to Wellmans on Anglesey last night to see Katie Rhodes. It was the firt time Katie had appeared here therefore many of the dancers had not seen here before. Those who had seen her attended the Tombstone Festival in August therefore they knew what a fabulous evening they were going to have.Katie was quite nervous as this was unchartered territory for her, but from the minute she took to the stage it was obvious we were in for another great nights entertainment from her. Unfortunately her banter was pointed towards Bill and myself, but knowing Kate as we do it was like water off a ducks back. She went down a storm and kept everyone there till the very end with 2 encores, we would have had more if Shirley had let us. What a fantanstic polished, professional performance once again from this young lady, who is destined to be one of the best female singers of the future. |

20th SeptemberCajun Moon & Jim Clarke We travelled to the Civic Centre at Connah's Quay to see Jim Clarke and Cajun Moon. Jim Clarke took to the stage first. Albeit rather loud, he has got a very good voice, but it would have been better if he'd changed his clothing to provide better stage presentation. Cajun Moon appeared next, they looked very smart, but unfortunately for me didn't really get the blood pumping. They sang some good songs, but lacked enthusiasm and flare. I felt for their 2nd spot they went on stage far too late and many people had started to head off home. Next month sees the return of Paul Taylor and Kris Davis and Jessica. | Alan Gregory 6.6.08It was off to Broughton Wings last night to see Alan Gregory and we were certainly not dissapointed. Alan with his usual comedy kept the dance floor full all night - his range of songs was just right for the crowd from his very up to date to some oldies. Alan has a great personality which bubbles over into his brilliant performance, always a smile on his face and between songs his 'Frank Spencer' impressions kept the dancers laughing and thoroughly adds to the whole nights enjoyment. Always a great atmosphere here at Broughton and last night was no exception. Next month sees the return of John Permenter, for further details and information contact Lorraine telephone: (01244) 534323 |

Rhylsville weekend 24/25th MayIt was off to Rhyl for the outdoor bank holiday weekend festival. Saturday was gorgeous weather and on stage were Cajun Moon, Ryder & James and Carl Shay. Each act did two sets to a large crowd of dancers and sunbathers. Unfortunately Sunday wasn't as kind where the weathers concerned. It was breezy and cold and later in the day began to spot with rain. Sunday gave us 3 amazing acts, Bobby D. Sawyer, Magill and Kenny Johnson. The dancers were really on good form for each of the acts and again a really good crowd attendend. It is the first time we've been to this festival held in the Events Arena on the promenade but I would most certainly recommend it is well worth a visit next year. | Cole Jackson-Wylfa-21.6.08Everyone had a very pleasant and pleasing experience with Cole Jackson's first appearance at Wylfa. Some journey this man made from Nottingham to this venue. Everyone who made the effort to attend through attrotious weather conditions were certainly not disapointed with this young mans performance. He has an excellent singing voice-good stage presentation and personality and good rapour with the audience. His variety of songs kept the dancers busy with dances such as 'Louisiana Way' and 'Tempted'. Cole finished the evening off with a David Alexander number 'The Answer to Everything' which kept everyone spellbound. If you have not seen this young man, he is most definitely worth seeing if he appears a club near you. |

Connahs Quay 17.5.08Artists on stage Nicky James & Paul Bailey. Nicky was first on stage. I've seen Nicky a couple of times before and always felt he was good value for money. Very pleasing to listen to and good for the dancers and listeners alike. I've often thought this artist to be under estimated as a solo act as he sometimes appears with his band. He gave two excellent spots which seemed to please the audience greatly. I recommend that if you have a chance to see this artist make every effort to do so. | Connahs Quay 17.5.08Once again Paul had the audience completely on his side which was not surprising as this artist gets better and better every time you see him. The hall was packed to capacity in fact the organisers were continually asking for any spare seats, but line dancers and listeners were not dissapointed by Pauls banter and singing performance. He sang quite a number of songs from his new Album 'By Request 5' and a lot of his favourites such as Baby Jane, Ride the River & A cowboy & dancer. I've never seen the dance floor as full all night from any other artist at Connahs Quay. Absolutely fabulous night, well worth the visit. Check out 'What's on Where' for future events. |

Katie Rhodes 2.2.08This venue is very small but regardless holds plenty of atmosphere. Since our last visit there has been a change of management. Performing tonight was Katie Rhodes - unfortunately there isn't a stage and the room only holds comfortably around 25 people, but there is plenty of space in the bar at the rear where people were able to see Katie from their seats. It was refreshing to hear Katie perform Country songs not normally heard at line dance venues, even though she was supporting a bad throat - she did an excellent 2 spots. A few people attempted to dance in the limited space and did so rather sucessfully. Regular listeners at the Brunel were greatly suprised by the personality of this young lady who sings from the heart and it's obvious loves country music. They would undoubtedly let her sing all night and possibly Katie would have done. Unfortunately the time came for us to travel back home, another 44 miles, but the evening proved to be well worth the travel. Looking forward to seeing Katie again, she really is well worth seeing. | Lynette Marie 19.4.08It was a great nights entertainment at Heswall run by Alison and Ian of The Alicats with Lynette Marie on stage. She is a very talented singer with a great variety of songs which brought about a great atmosphere for both dancers and listeners alike. Check out 'Whats on locally' for their next Social. |

Johnny Holland 7.3.08Wallasey Town Hall played host to Johnny Holland tonight the event being held by Tombstone C.M.C. in aid of the festival. It was a good night, although unfortunately it seemed to be not as well supported as last year. Johnny Holland did an excellent job on stage and kept the dancers busy. The night was supported by Rebels Country Disco and by a variety of different dance clubs. | |
