Our 2016 holiday took 51 of us to Scarborough to the Norbreck Bay Hotel. What a lovely hotel, excellent staff, lovely clean rooms, superb food, wonderfull views. In fact overall an excellent stay at the Norbreck. Even a ‘working’ lift
This year we changed tour operators and went with The Shearings Group – not all plain sailing, but all worked out OK in the end.
We arrived mid afternoon Friday, giving us time to check in and refresh ourselves or go for a stroll before our evening meal – Our cases were taken to our rooms for us so we didn’t have to struggle.
After a lovely evening meal, we had entertainment in the lounge, starting off with a bingo session, which I’m pleased to say a couple of our group won (the cash prizes were quite good as well). The evening followed with a really good singer who got us up on the dance floor, and he even had a go at Red Hot Salsa himself.
Saturday after breakfast we had our day trip (included) to York. Either a browse round the shops, a visit to York Minster or the Railway Museum, or Wetherspoons (Bill and I did the latter as did a few others) – Alice and Audrey came along with us, as Alice had no option as we were in charge of her in her wheelchair. Saturday evening after our meal it was back to the lounge for our evenings entertainment another really good singer...Another game of bingo again won by a few of the group – one couple bagging over £111 (well done). Everyone had 4 free drinks vouchers Saturday night, which went down really well, so a good time was had by all.
Sunday morning we had our line dance workshop – I taught Teddy Bears Picnic by Rob Fowler & refreshed Blackpool by the Sea, aptly renamed ‘Scarborough by the Sea’ – the workshop was well attended, think that was probably due to the weather.
At 12.30 most of us boarded the coach for an optional trip (costing £8.50 each) to Whitby and surrounding areas, coming back via Goathland (Heartbeat Country) to see Scripts Garage and the infamous Railway Station featured in the TV show. A really nice afternoon – Ian our coach driver was very knowledgeable on the area having family living in nearby Pickering and was full of information about everywhere.
Sunday night, more bingo in the lounge being won again by members of our group – our entertainer was a comedian who was brilliant.
Monday morning after breakfast it was time to board the coach homeward bound. During breakfast Bill and I were given a Thank You card containing a substantial monetary gift – thank you so much to everyone in the group, your generousity was overwhelming.
Also Ian our coach driver was handed over £80+ for his excellent efforts during our weekend.
Unfortunately we had several hours delay getting home due to a serious accident on the M62 causing us to be diverted over Saddleworth Moors, but hopefully this didn’t detract from our brilliant 4 day holiday.
