2009 BOOTSCOOTER REPORT

2009 REPORT
03 January 2010

2009 has once again been a very interesting year for the Bootscooters.
All our Socials have been a great success even though times have been hard and several clubs have been unable to continue especially presenting live acts on a regular basis.
In 2009 we tried again to bring in a wide variety of artistes which would satisfy both linedancers and listeners alike and we have been most grateful for our wonderful members and those people who have attended as many of our socials as they could and we hope they enjoyed the various nights as much as we did.
Our annual holiday was in Woolacombe a change to our usual venue of the Isle of Wight, so non of us knew what to expect, especially on the morning when the coach arrived for departure and Bill asked me ‘where’s the driver’, I replied, ‘it’s that LADY loading the cases in the boot’ – I think Bill was stunned – A WOMAN COACH DRIVER – but what a driver, this lady was absolutely superb and never failed to please. Her knowledge and driving of the coach was exceptional and even provided fresh tea and coffee from the machine, installed on the coach, to anyone who wanted it. Our stops both too and from Woolacombe were not the ‘run of the mill’ service stations, in fact one was a garden and gift centre, which many requested as a stop off on our return to enable them to purchase gifts for home.
The weather, oh dear, what can we say, we experienced all 4 seasons in one day. Woolacombe is famous for surfboarding, and by gum, didn’t they have some waves, in storm cast weather, yet this did not deter many of us walking down to the bay and having our usual 2 half trips out, one being to Barnstable – what a lovely shopping town and the other to Lynton and Lymouth with such fantanstic scenery and history to these quant villages, with of course the famous Lynton Lift, which again many of us enjoyed the experience.
The hotel was rather dated, but  warm, friendly and comfortable and the food was superb, it was buffet style, but what a selection and as much as you could eat, and boy did we all eat, must have been the bracing sea air !!!!!
Entertainment was provided for 3 nights by Dave Whitmore, No Regrets and Billy Curtis and the upstairs bar had the cabaret singers for those who wanted a change. Our line dance instructor was Kim Aldis who along with her husband Roy did us all proud.
For 2010 another change in destination – This year we have plumped for Torquay and mainly the same people will be coming with many new faces joining us this year. Again this is a new venture for us with a new Tour Company and a new hotel The Inglewood, unexplored territory. I’m sure we’ll all have a great time once again as we have such a fantastic group of people going.
Our Bootscooter members and friends were once again great in supporting our stall for the 2009 Tombstone Country Music Festival - we raised £500 over the 2 day period, all monies going to the Wirral Autistic Society, lets hope 2010 can be just as successful.
In December many of you attended my 60th Birthday Party, and although I do say myself it was a fantastic night and I’d like to take this opportunity of thanking all of those who  came along to celebrate with me and for all your lovely presents and good wishes.

It is pleasing to see the large volume  people who continue to view our website on various pages of interest. We do try and put as much information as possible with Socials, Festivals and reports from different places around the Country and are always willing to advertise any socials or events to assist other clubs. Please contact me if you require further information.
As from Wednesday 13th January the Bronze Bootscooter line dance classes will commence with our first social of 2010 being in March on Tuesday l6th when we will have on stage Nancy Ann Lee and Paul Bailey. This will be a ticket only event.
It only remains for Bill and I to say a very BIG THANK YOU to all our members and friends for their continued support and wish you all a very happy, peaceful and healthy 2010.
